Fishtail Swag Curtains for the Kitchen

Another change I want to make in the kitchen is the curtain. We have a large and very square window over the sink. My husband has had a sheer valance at the window. We've talked about replacing it and he is adamant that I don't block off any light from the window. He didn't want any heavy curtains there, nor did I.

Well, while looking through a curtain catalog I found what is the perfect thing - a fishtail swag. A fishtail swag hangs around the border of the window, not blocking any light. Good. The next choice was the fabric.

As I mentioned above I've been trying to give my kitchen a Tuscan look. I found a site on line, Dianthus Ltd. who make custom curtains. They have a wonderful selection of fabrics, mostly reminiscent of colonial or country fabrics.

Anyway, I contacted them and they sent me five free samples. My husband and I looked at them and were able to come up with one with both agreed upon. It has an old faded look to it, the background is green with flowers, leaves and vines in beige with reddish accents. It's perfect to compliment the other colors in my kitchen (even that great Cucina Fresca dinnerware).

The next step was to find the perfect medallions to hang the swag... that's another shopping adventure!
